PROJECT MANAGEMENT DAY OF SERVICE

The impossible made possible by PMO Strategies!

PMO Strategies believes in leveraging Project Management to help those that are working tirelessly to help those in our local community.

On January 19, 2015, Martin Luther King Day (the national day of service), we partnered with the five DMV area Project Management Institute (PMI) chapters and the Taproot Foundation to found the first ever Project Management Day of Service (PMDoS) – an all-day Scope-A-Thon. This unprecedented, innovative event brought together over 400 volunteer project managers to scope projects for 100 nonprofit organizations. That’s 100 scoped projects in ONE day!

What role did we play? PMO Strategies ran the Impossible PMO™

The following year, on January 18, 2016, we successfully completed our second Project Management Day of Service (PMD0S), with double the number of attendees! PMO Strategies continued to be a founding sponsor for this fantastic event!

This year, 2017, we came together for the best Project Management Day of Service (PMD0S), yet! PMD0S has grown rapidly and now exists regionally in the United States and Australia. Thanks to our many sponsors, including the Points of Light Foundation, for supporting our event this year!

Any of this sound familiar?

  • Implementing something new that’s never been done before?
  • How about a lack of budget?
  • Not enough resources?
  • People saying that it can’t be done?
  • How about stakeholders that aren’t engaged or say they can’t support you?
  • What about leadership saying they cannot support your efforts?

But you still have a dream … a vision … a calling to make a difference. YOU want to be the agent of change and get something meaningful done. YOU want to drive impact. Now … add to that …

No legal entity, no way to accept financial support, no way to pay anyone to do the work, and a general belief by stakeholders that it just CAN’T BE DONE.

We had every one of these barriers to success and using our PMO Strategies Building Blocks for an Effective and Sustainable PMO, we conquered every single one of them!! PMO Strategies made the impossible PMO a very successful change engine to make magic happen. See the article written up in PMI Today about our very first Project Management Day of Service event!
