PM Career Assessment Survey
This assessment is used to determine the areas of strength and weakness for the PMO or services existing today outside of the PMO that could become future PMO services.
Once completed, you will complete the SWOT Analysis to begin brainstorming on the opportunities for PMO IMPACT. This survey will help guide your thinking and bring to light any trouble spots you want to consider focusing on for your initial PMO IMPACT recommendation.
We will use this SWOT Analysis in the Health Assessment and Plan Workshop as an input into building our PMO road map, using my iterative planning technique.
You can complete this assessment exercise as a group, just you and your sponsor, or individually.
Time permitting, it’s best to include other stakeholders in this SWOT analysis and assessment survey and this is a great opportunity to engage stakeholders that have not been great supporters of the PMO, as well to engage your PMO champions. Once completed, you will use them to inform your assessment summaries in the PMO recommendation presentation.

PMO Assessment Guidance
The goal for this assessment is to understand where your PMO provides value today or where other parts of the organization are performing services that the PMO could serve and evaluate how effective those services are now.
This assessment works for PMOs in place now or where you have like services taking place in various parts of the organization. If you do not have these services today, then this helps you evaluate where the biggest needs might be for you to focus first.
You can apply this to both new PMOs and existing PMOs because if your PMO is new, it’s important for you to see where those services are happening now because you’ll be looking to shift or provide gap fillers or add new services, and that will be identified in the SWOT analysis, but if you have an existing PMO, then this is going to help you target the areas you’re going to want to evolve in your next phase of the PMO evolution roadmap.
Again, remember even if your PMO doesn’t exist, and there is no PMO in the organization, we still need to look at where certain services are being provided, no matter how ad hoc or haphazardly they’re being provided, we have to look across the board and see where those kinds of activities or centers of activities are happening now to determine the areas we want to spend energy on, the areas that we want to incorporate into the PMO, the things that aren’t broken and we don’t need to fix them, all of that comes from doing this evaluation.
